I Love Limericks

Something so pure and so true
As a limerick spun out of the blue,
Will always leave me
Feeling ever so free
That I can’t help but share it with you.

I’ve always had a soft spot for poetry. I’m not a snob, and don’t appreciate the wider world of poetry the way I do other forms of media. I don’t read it that often. But throughout school I adored writing them, particularly the typical ABAB (or similar) stanzas. They were the simplest word puzzles to fumble with.

The premier format for me is the limerick. They’re short and sweet, with an obvious scheme, and for whatever reason they always stick. The rhythm and rhyme are always obvious. They can be a quick way to a nice sentiment, or contain some misdirection to create a lovely joke.

I love limericks.
